Cy Winstanley

The Cy Winstanley Group performs original compositions, classic jazz and blues songs, and unique interpretations of pop tunes. At its core, the group is Cy Winstanley on vocals and guitar and Vanessa McGowan on double bass and backing vocals.

During his 10 years as a professional musician based in New Zealand, The United Kingdom and Malaysia, Cy has garnered influences from wide range of musical styles including jazz, rock, blues, bluegrass, country and bossa nova. His compositions, nuanced vocal delivery, guitar stylings, and exciting and charismatic live performances reflect this diversity.

Cy's debut album was released with 'Her Make Believe Band' (also featuring Vanessa McGowan) in 2009 and was greeted with glowing reviews by the international media.

New Zealand born bassist and composer Vanessa McGowan established herself on the New Zealand jazz scene performing in the Rodger Fox Big Band and with vocalist Caitlin Smith before relocating to the USA to pursue her Masters degree on scholarship in 2005.

In 2006 she performed at the Lincoln Center in New York with the International Association of Jazz Education "Sisters In Jazz" Quintet and also toured Costa Rica later that year with the same group before moving to London in 2007.
